What Is a Crown
A crown is a tooth-shaped cover that gets installed over the tooth, protecting it. Crowns can be temporary or permanent, and come in a variety of different materials. Crowns are often used to address a tooth that has been broken, or to protect a tooth that’s had a cavity or a root canal.
The CEREC® Process
Traditional crowns require a mold to be taken and sent off to a lab where the crown is created, leaving the patient to wait for a period of time before the dentist receives their finished crown. With CEREC®, the process has been streamlined, and patients can have their crown made on-site in just one visit to their dentist’s office. With CEREC®, Dr. Johnson will take a digital scan of your teeth, which will yield a 3D image that will then be used to help him design a custom crown that will fit comfortably and flawlessly into your smile. With the CEREC® mill, the ceramic crown will be created in less than an hour, and ready to be placed. Dr. Johnson will proceed to adhere the crown to your tooth, and voila!
