How PPE Keeps You Safe & Healthy at the Dentist
In these uncertain times with COVID-19, PPE is at the forefront of many organization's and citizen's minds. At Gary Johnson DDS Family & Cosmetic Dentistry we take extra precautions to ensure that your family and our team stay healthy. Our mission is to promote a safe environment at our dental practice!
What Is PPE?
PPE is personal protective equipment. This equipment includes protective eyewear, facemasks/shields, and protective clothing (including gloves). The main goal of wearing personal protective equipment is to create a barrier between the skin as well as the mucous membranes (eyes, nose, and mouth) and any pathogens, viruses, or bacteria that come our way.
Why Is PPE Important?
PPE helps stop the spread of bacteria and keeps both the wearer and the patient protected. For example, if you are wearing PPE and someone sneezes or coughs next to you, the PPE helps protect you from anything that splashes or sprays your way. PPE can play a big role in slowing the spread of viruses, especially since it's important to note that viruses are much smaller than even the smallest bacteria. Protecting the mucous membranes and prime portals of entry can help reduce the spread.
Additional Safety Measures
In addition to our team wearing masks at all times, we have also instilled new health and safety measures to protect everyone who visits our office, such as:
Clean reception area with magazines and child's toys temporarily unavailable to avoid spreading germs
Extensive cleaning and disinfecting of chairs and treatment areas between patients
Hand sanitizer at the entrance and throughout the office
Patient pre-screening questions
Reduced number of patients in the waiting room at a given time
Social distancing between patients and team members
