How to Keep Your Teeth White When You Love Coffee

Anyone that loves coffee has probably been concerned about getting a duller smile. The dark liquid sticks to your teeth and then leaves behind yellow stains. One solution is to stop drinking coffee, but that isn’t a realistic solution for many of us. Sometimes you need a cup of coffee to get ready for the day. So here are our top tips to keep your teeth white when you are a regular coffee drinker.

Drink Coffee Quickly

Don’t spend all morning sipping on coffee. This prolongs the time that coffee sits on your teeth. The more time that coffee spends on your teeth, the more time it will have to stain your teeth. Enjoy your morning coffee, but you should spend as little as time possible drinking it.

Use a Straw

Straws are a great way to keep coffee away from your front teeth. The liquid goes to the back of the mouth and doesn’t affect your front teeth. Since many people only care about their front teeth getting stained, straws are one way to keep coffee from staining them.

Rinse Your Mouth After

Ideally, you would brush and floss your teeth after drinking a cup of coffee. This removes any stain-causing bacteria. When you’re on the go, you can drink water and rinse the coffee away from your teeth that way. The most important thing is to get any coffee remnants off from the enamel of your teeth.

Consider Using Whitening Toothpaste

All ADA-approved toothpaste is good at removing surface stains, but you may want to consider getting a whitening toothpaste. It contains a particular bleaching chemical that can help keep your teeth white. Whitening toothpaste isn’t as effective as professional teeth whitening, but it’s easy to put in your regular oral hygiene routine.
